Intention is everything - The art of successful communication
Have you ever wondered whether there is such a thing as a single characteristic that determines whether every type of communication is positive or negative? There actually is. And you might be surprised, because I'm not talking about a technique, a method or a specific process. The key that can open the door to success in all situations in life is your intention.
It does not matter whether your Communicate with employees, you are facing a difficult negotiation or want to teach your children something. Your results stand and fall with the expectations with which you approach the small and large tasks of everyday life.
Intention Definition German: Communicate with meaning
I would like to share one of my deepest convictions with you: Intention beats everything. Yes, really everything. Others may be smarter, faster or more talented. If you approach your tasks with the right intention, you will always be that famous step ahead. So let's take a closer look at what I mean by intention.
On the one hand, for me it is the mentality, with which you do the things you do. A clear expectation of the end result of the upcoming communications. It is the absence of doubt and the deep certainty that you will achieve exactly what you set out to do. This applies to sales talks, conflicts and negotiations, but also to flirting, conversations with your relatives and raising your children.
Intention: the importance of communication with meaning
Let's move on to the second factor, namely the question, why and why not you communicate with other people at all. What, you usually don't even know that because you're the spontaneous type? Sometimes you just exchange a few irrelevant phrases because that's what people do on certain occasions?
Then I would like to suggest the following idea to you. Never go into a conversation, conversation or any other type of communication without a specific goal. Think about what you want your conversation partner to think, do and especially how you want them to feel beforehand. The more clearly you know what your goal is, the more clearly you can act. You will be amazed at how quickly people sense when you are acting with the right intention.
The more you focus outward on your customers, employees or family members, the more you will achieve your own goals. Because everything in life really revolves around relationships with other people.
What you can learn about communication from a waiter
An example. Last year, we spent our family vacation in Florida, where one morning in Fort Lauderdale at Denny's were having breakfast. As soon as we sat down in our alcove, our waiter introduced himself. His name was Bobby and he immediately made a joke to greet us. He then brought us the menus and asked: „Hey, are you ready for the best French toast of your life?“
My attention was definitely piqued. And Bobby continued at the same high level. He had two small gifts for our children in his trouser pocket and he put a discount coupon on the table for my wife and me, which we could use to save on a meal that day. He then asked what we were going to do in his home town, told us about his time in the army in Germany and always made us laugh. We quickly found a shared passion and talked about golf, tennis and the many leisure activities in the area. Bobby was never pushy, but managed to make us feel right at home in no time at all.
And after we had eaten, he offered to reserve the best table in the restaurant for us the next day. Where do you think we were sitting 24 hours later? And because I was so fascinated by his intention, I asked Bobby when we said goodbye how he manages to be so friendly and courteous despite always having the same routine at work as a waiter. He just laughed briefly and then said: „Well, that's simple, I just like people.“
11 reasons why you should only communicate with intention from now on
„I just like people.“ This one sentence perfectly summarizes the effect of intentional communication. It's always about people. If you manage to establish a personal connection with your employees, colleagues and customers, the best things will happen. Because then they feel comfortable.
And if you feel good, you will act accordingly. Your sales, negotiation success and all communication results are directly related to the intensity of the relationships you build with other people. Because nothing is as powerful as the right intention. Because you no longer act randomly, arbitrarily and irrelevantly, but give concrete meaning to every single moment of your life. This applies to the small problems of everyday life, but especially to the big challenges. Why? Quite simply because intention...
- ...provides clarity
- ...strengthens your self-confidence
- ...eliminates doubts
- ...creates an invisible bond between two people
- ...creates certainty
- ...creates positive feelings
- ...replaces irrelevance with meaning
- ...ensures the right focus
- ...motivated
- ...is more important than all techniques, methods and processes put together
- ...beats everything
Your expectations can tip the scales at important moments and determine success or failure. The best thing about this is that you become completely independent of external factors, because your intention is controlled exclusively by you from start to finish. The better you do this, the more confident, convinced and successful you will be in these moments and the more you will be able to enjoy the rollercoaster ride that inevitably follows.
And now I'm curious: How do you deal with the topic of intention, what experiences have you had? I look forward to your comment 🙂
Yours sincerely
